in Paris, Volodymyr Zelensky denies talk of ceasefire and calls for more support

The Ukrainian president attributed the information regarding the ceasefire to Russian “disinformation” after his meeting with Emmanuel Macron.

The ceasefire “is not a subject of discussions (…) with our allies”, declared Volodymyr Zelensky after his meeting with Emmanuel Macron, Thursday October 10 in Paris. He attributed this information to the “disinformation” Russian. The Ukrainian president also called for a rapid increase in Western aid “before winter”. “OI don’t need your support”, he insisted.

Emmanuel Macron, for his part, assured that France’s aid would continue “in accordance with its commitments”and emphasized “advancement” training and equipping a brigade. “It’s also a very unique model of cooperation”he argued.

After a first stop in London, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stopped in Paris as part of a mini-tour to his main European allies. He is now expected in Rome and then in Berlin, less than a month before the American presidential election, the uncertain outcome of which has raised fears in kyiv for the sustainability of American support.

The prospect of a Donald Trump victory was, however, downplayed by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in London. “Stop worrying about a Trump presidency”he told journalists. “I am absolutely convinced that the United States will be involved, because they understand that it is not only about Ukraine, but also about themselves”added the NATO chief.

In London on Thursday morning, President Volodymyr Zelensky presented details of his “victory plan” against Russia to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Mark Rutte, according to a press release from the Ukrainian presidency. This plan “aims to create conditions conducive to a just end to the war.”
