Paris, Lyon, Bordeaux, Rennes, Montpellier… These gatherings organized at the call of various organizations for the defense of the environment, charities or even feminists brought together several tens of thousands of participants in total. With the watchword, that the next five years will be those of “justice, climate, equality and peace”.

In Paris, behind a few dozen “yellow vests” gathered at the head of the procession, the signs recall this climate emergency: “Red alert for a greener future”, “Let’s isolate housing, not people”… For Astrid, 26, no more time to lose in the face of global warming: “It’s a cry from the heart, so that they realize that it matters to us, and that we don’t care about anything else. This emergency is the most important for our survival. The animals don’t care. come out, we won’t adapt!”

In the minds of the demonstrators, the latest report by IPCC experts, published on Monday April 4, which calls for a radical transformation of the economy: “He is very alarmist. Those who pound the pavement are mostly young people. Chloé, auditor in the environment, is 28 years old. “Seeing lots of young people gives hope, she says. We have no choice: if we do nothing, we run into the wall. We have to move. We want to live in a livable world, to have children who can also live in a bearable world.”

And for that, everyone has to get involved, adds Serge, a biology researcher: “We will probably have to change our way of life. And this must be accompanied by politicians, we cannot ask that it be only individual actions. When we see for example that the plane is often cheaper than the train , it’s something that has to be settled politically.”

And that’s what these demonstrators are asking for: that we don’t forget the climate in the next five years, whoever the head of state is.
