A spontaneous gathering was held on the evening of Sunday June 9 at Place de la République in Paris, noted a franceinfo reporter on site, with several hundred left-wing activists after the high score achieved by the RN in the European elections and the announcement of the dissolution of the National Assembly by Emmanuel Macron.
Matthieu, an activist from Europe Ecologie-Les Verts, “feels totally helpless with 30% fascism.” “We are here to demand a union of the left”. For him “the dissolution announced by Emmanuel Macron is a catastrophe”. According to this activist, there is “a government strategy which is extremely dangerous to want to increase fascism and then represent itself behind it by saying: look, the extreme right does not know how to govern”.
Another young man, who says he is not an activist for a party, deplores “that we don’t remember much from History”. “We have to show that we are here, I’m tired of tearing down the walls”he adds. “We have three weeks to block the far right, I don’t want to grow up in this France”continues a young woman, while the crowd chants “unity, unity”.
