Ingenious technology, delicious smoothies
Founded in 2021 by William Cadieux, Wise By Nature stands out for having created the first “dry” smoothie mixes in the country. These powdered smoothies are like no other: they contain real fruits and vegetables that are freeze-dried using freeze-drying, a technology that removes the water content from foods without deteriorating them, then stores them at room temperature , without risk. Just blend a few spoonfuls with ice and the liquid of your choice – water, milk, vegetable drink, juice. Six flavors are offered and all taste great. There are also nutritional benefits. For example, Zénith, made with mango, pineapple and passion fruit, is added with chia; Sentei combines the benefits of green tea with a blend of spinach, banana, oats and flax. One serving contains between 5 and 10 g of protein, depending on the mix chosen.

Meats without junk
A well-known company in Bas-Saint-Laurent, founded 17 years ago by Nathalie Joannette, Fou du Cochon pursues its mission of creating quality deli meats with its new range of Tipousse products, which will certainly appeal to those looking for handcrafted, from organic ingredients and without questionable additives. Inspired by the American pepperette, the new sausage comes from pigs raised in the Kamouraska region, fed vegetable grains and without antibiotics, and incorporates certified organic aromatics. Like all of the company’s products, the sausages are lacto-fermented using indigenous Kamouraska flora. Perfect for aperitifs, Tipousse has five original flavors: plain, white pepper, chipotle, garden herb and, our favourite, garlic+anise.
Small Tipousse sausages, from Fou du Cochon
$5.89 for a package of three sausages, available at a few points of sale in the province, or $50 online for a box of 10 packs of three sausages.
Rethinking lattes
Do you like to drink your latte in the morning, but coffee and you don’t go well together? SETA Organic’s latte mixes may be the answer. Based in the Laurentians, Isabelle Jolette began incorporating “superfoods” into her food after being diagnosed with irritable bowel. From there was born this idea of powdered latte mixes, based on organic coconut milk, also including many so-called adaptogenic ingredients. Each scent serves a function: there’s the energizing blend of beetroot, yerba mate, lion’s mane mushroom and rhodiola root; or the soothing cocoa and blend of adaptogenic mushrooms. All ingredients are natural and mostly organic, then slowly dried and powdered. Just add a little water and vegetable milk of your choice, and you’re done!

A winning combination
We told you the beautiful story of La Morin mustard, the fruit of a local company launched by airplane pilot Julien Morin. Since then, the company – which now obtains its mustard seeds from local suppliers – has continued to grow. We already liked the original Morin or the beer one, but we have a crush on the honey one, made in collaboration with Miel d’Anicet. First launched as a special edition, the product has been so successful that it will be integrated into the permanent range; the honeys used will vary with the season and the harvests, so each batch will be unique. The combination of honey and mustard is seen here elevated to other skies thanks to top quality ingredients. The list is short (mustard seeds, cider vinegar, honey, olive oil, sea salt, lemon salt, turmeric) and the taste of the product is fine and balanced. Spread on your sandwiches or use in your dressings or marinades (our pork tenderloin was absolutely divine!).
