Terrible news for Harry Potter fans! One of its iconic characters has died…
This is Robbie Coltrane, real name Anthony Robert McMillan. The British actor, famous interpreter of Hagrid in the fantastic saga, died Friday October 14 at the Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbret (Scotland), said his agent Belinda Wright.
“Robbie had a unique talent, sharing with Michael Gambon (who was also part of the Harry Potter saga, playing Professor Dumbledore) a record for winning three consecutive Best Actor Baftas”, for his role in the Cracker series, in 1994, 1995 and 1996, recalled his agent. He had also acted in two James Bond films namely GoldenEye and The World Is Not Enough. “He was smart, brilliantly witty and after 40 years of being his agent, I will miss him.”she added.
For almost 10 years of his life, the comedian took on this half-giant, half-human character that hundreds of millions of people around the world adored so much.
In the signed special HBO : Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to HogwartsRobbie Coltrane, very moved, recalled the impact of his role in this magical universe which rocked generations and which will continue to do so for several more decades. “Everyone in the world would love to have a really big, huge, strong, good man by their side, simple as that. That’s the attraction of Superman and those things”he said. “Hagrid has always been the good guy, hasn’t he?”
He had also shared his very touching point of view on the legacy of the Harry Potter films. “The legacy of films is that my children’s generation will show them to their children”he said in his last interview, at the very end of the program. “You can watch it 50 years from now, easy.” Before adding: “I won’t be there, unfortunately. But Hagrid will. Yes.”
The star is survived by her children, Spencer and Alice; their mother, Rhona Gemmell and her sister Annie Rae…
