The offshore wind farm project off the island of Oléron should be located further than planned, 40 km from the coast, outside the marine natural park, after a government decision. But opponents are still not reassured, and fear a very negative impact on fishing and biodiversity.

Off the island of Oléron (Charente Maritime)the project to install dozens of wind turbines has been modified by the government. They will now be located 40 km from the coast, outside the marine natural park. But fishermen still fear a reduction in their fishing area. The remoteness of the wind turbine installation area is an insufficient response for fishermen, but also for environmental associations, and some elected officials who have been united against the project for several months.

“Since we put 40 km, why not put them at 60-70 km floating. That would solve a lot of problems. It would have much less impact on the fishery.”believes Christophe Sueur, mayor (Various right) from Saint-Pierre-d’Oleron (Charente Maritime). Installing wind turbines further offshore: this was one of the conclusions of the national public debate commission. For the government, the chosen area is the most favorable. Several environmental studies should still draw the contours of the project, planned for 2030.
