Made in France: in the Oise, the success of a tricolor toothbrush company
Made in France: in the Oise, the success of a tricolor toothbrush company – (France 2)
The company “La Brosserie Française” produces toothbrushes almost entirely made in France. Located in Beauvais, in the Oise, it almost disappeared in 2012, in the face of Asian competition. It was then that a former employee decided to take it over by making things made in France.
In Beauvais (Oise), the company “La Brosserie Française” produces toothbrushes almost entirely made in France. Only the filaments are imported from Germany. The handle is made in Normandy, and the assembly finalized in the workshop in Beauvais. “Our toothbrush is made from recycled plastic, (…) the filaments are made up of 70% vegetable base, and all of this is manufactured in the Beauvais factory”, indicates Olivier Remoissonnet, general director of the company.
Eight million toothbrushes sold per year
Made in France saved this company. In 2012, part of the toothbrush was manufactured in Asia. Faced with Asian competition, the price of the toothbrush had fallen. The company then almost disappeared, but Olivier Remoissonnet, a former employee, launched a somewhat crazy bet: take over the company and conquer a new market, with the strategy of 100% French. Today, the company sells eight million toothbrushes per year, particularly in supermarkets, and has increased its turnover by more than 50%.
