In Nice, communists and left-wing sympathizers find the Fête du Château

Red in the middle of the green trees on the hill of the castle, in Nice, this weekend! The communist party reinvests the hill for its traditional Castle Festivalafter a two-year absence due to a global pandemic.

On the program of the festivities: debates, grill and drink stands, concerts in the evening, all free of charge. This Nice version of the Huma Festival exists for 76 years.

This 73rd edition is a bit special, after two years of interruption and legislative elections which saw the birth of the New Popular Ecological and Social Union, the NUPES. “We benefit from the dynamics of the elections“, confirms Marie-Chantal Guzman, federal co-secretary of the PCF. “We wondered if we were going to succeed in reviving the party, the bet is won! We found our way back up the hill. The citizens are there, that’s our strength: bringing together parties and people who want to get involved. Our goal is to reduce abstention, to bring hope. People tell us: you made us dream, keep going! So we have an obligation to succeed in getting along. The party is a good starting point to continue this great adventure..”

In the middle of the various stands, youthof the less young. Thomas, 20, comes for the first time: “There are plenty of different associations and collectives! I came for the NUPES, the young communists, all these movements which can restore hope in the future and with regard to the problems which will be imposed on us!

Concerned young people and remotivated elders, like Mario: “We stayed 30 years on our own to say ‘I’m better than you’; so of course there are differences, but we don’t care, the important thing is what brings us together!

A successful bet for the Fête du Château, its forty stands and its 400 volunteers.
