As New York City faces a heatwave, a bridge, whose parts have expanded, remained blocked for several hours on Tuesday, July 9.
In New York (United States), an overheated bridge is stuck above the river, Tuesday, July 9. For several hours, firefighters were forced to hose down the structure to cool it. This century-old swing bridge connects the Bronx to Manhattan. Monday morning, when it was time to close it after a ship had passed, metal parts expanded and it was impossible to realign the bridge with the rest of the roadway.
With temperatures approaching 35°C felt, New York is experiencing its second heatwave of the summer. Swimming pools are open until the evening and authorities recommend limiting outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day. After four hours of watering and final checks, the bridge was able to reopen on Tuesday, July 9, which is good news for New York motorists.
