An exchange that did not go unnoticed. Emmanuel Macron spoke on Tuesday July 25 from New Caledonia of the possibility that his former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe could “take over” at the Elysée in 2027, claiming to be concerned “that there really is a sequel” to his own action.

Shaking hands during a walkabout in Noumea, the head of state was challenged by a man suggesting: “In 2027, maybe Edouard Philippe will replace you.” “I want those who have been with me during these six years, who have carried out the reforms alongside me, to be able to take over”, replied the French president, adding about the former head of government: “He did that well. He’s a friend.”

Emmanuel Macron, however, maintained relations connected to alternating current with Edouard Philippe, as the emancipation of the current mayor of Le Havre who created his Horizons party two years ago. With significant popularity, born in particular during the Covid-19 pandemic, the latter is at this stage the main contender to endorse the costume of candidate of the Macronist majority in the next presidential election.
