Saturday May 21, 2022, two teenagers drowned in Narbonne. They bathed a hundred meters from the beach. The emergency services dispatched to the scene were unable to do anything for them. On the other hand, a third person escaped the worst.

The sea seems calm, but appearances are often deceiving in the Mediterranean. Here, even small waves can be dangerous. Saturday afternoon, two young swimmers aged 17 were trapped by the swell. Surprised by the current, they did not manage to regain the shore. The risk of drowning is still very present today. This mother knows it and does not fail to remind her children. “I always stay close and I check that they don’t go far“, she explains.”I went for a swim but I won’t take any reckless risk“, adds this man.

Be careful, especially since the beaches will not be supervised before mid-June. But on the Aude coast, given the weather conditions, around thirty firefighters were called in for reinforcement for the weekend. Yesterday, their presence saved a bather from drowning, in extremis. The rescuers recall that in case of difficulty, there is no point in fighting against the current, but rather to let yourself drift until help arrives.
