In Mykolaiv, in southern Ukraine, residents have been without water for weeks. It is out of the question for Russia to allow any repair of the network.
It’s a morning like any other, Sunday May 8, in Mykolaiv (Ukraine). The inhabitants note the damage of the bombings of the night: a missile on businesses which did not make a victim. Then begins a new essential fight, that of finding water. A month ago, Russian forces destroyed the pipes supplying this southern city of 300,000 inhabitants.
In this district of the periphery, there is a lot of feverishness linked to the deprivation of water orchestrated by the Russians. Volunteers distribute liters to residents, who are waiting with buckets. “A month without drinking water, or water to wash and do the dishes… We have come to this”deplores a Ukrainian woman. “Look at my hands, it’s very heavy. I’m over 70, is it normal for me to fetch water at my age?”says another resident.
