The man who took refuge in his apartment on Friday May 3 in the evening in the town of L’Hôpital, near Forbach (Moselle), after injuring another man with a knife, was subdued shortly before midnight and then hospitalized, France Bleu Lorraine Nord learned.
The individual had locked himself in his home after injuring a person in the back who had come to bring him food. According to the city’s mayor, Emmanuel Schuler, the maniac then caused a gas explosion which started a fire in his apartment, which was quickly brought under control by the firefighters.
The incident led to the evacuation of around forty apartments in the building. Most were able to return home after the arrest, according to the mayor. Significant resources were mobilized, including the Raid, the elite police intervention unit, present at 10 p.m.
The man is already known for acts of violence, according to the mayor of the town. The madman, suffering from psychological problems, was sentenced to prison several times, notably after slashing the face of a young man who had refused him a cigarette.
