In Montpellier, 102 tombstones for the 102 feminicides since the start of the year

As part of the Day Against Violence Against Women, hundreds of people (around 700, for the time being), gathered on the Place de la Comédie in Montpellier. The organizers have planned information and awareness stands, a musical march and a symbolic action in front of the Montpellier police station.

Like last year, the organizers made 102 “tombstones”, like the number of femicides since the beginning of the year. These are cut pieces of black cardboard, with the name, age and how these women were killed. At the end of the course, these 102 first names will be brandished.

A billion euros to fight against this violence

Associations, organizations, political parties and collectives organized this march to denounce feminicides and the way in which rape complaints would be handled at the Montpellier police station. They ask to fight against rape, incest and all gender-based and sexual violence. “The government had promised to make gender equality its “great cause of the five-year term”, 5 years later, nothing has changed“, they criticize.

They claim 1 billion euros to finance training (police officers, magistrates, health and education professionals), to set up awareness-raising campaigns on sexism and consent and to better support victims and perpetrators of gender-based violence and sexual.
