The coastal village of El Bosque, in the south of Mexico, sees the Atlantic Ocean gradually eating away at the mainland. So much so that the majority of its inhabitants had to resolve to evacuate the premises.

In southern Mexico, almost nothing remains of the small coastal village of El Bosque, Tuesday May 28. The sea irremediably engulfed the houses, forcing the 700 inhabitants to leave the area. Adrian is a fisherman and has always lived here. He is one of the few who remained. He saw the water gradually eating away at the village, victim of the rise of the Atlantic Ocean. Winter storms have become more and more intense and longer and longer.

El Bosque is a new example of the consequences of global warming. “Little by little, the sea takes back what belongs to it. My parents told me that when they arrived in El Bosque, there was a lot of water. After them, other people came to build houses. With the work, the sea receded. But today, it has returned to its original level“, testifies Adrian. Among the families forced to be rehoused, some now wish to live elsewhere.
