After a two-year hiatus because of the Covid, there are many demonstrations on this March 8, women’s rights awareness day. In Metz, the Citizen and Cultural House of La Chaouée is organizing a round table and a screening of short films on this subject.
They are young, it is their first film. Ophélie Douraux, 23, signs a short film on female malaise. Drogue tells the story of a young girl “prey to his own demons who will live in his bathroom a quite traumatic experience”, explains the director. A descent into hell that will lead his character to a suicide attempt in his bathtub.
Another poignant film presented at this festival, that of Claire Sélighini, 20 years old, on domestic violence. “Absurd Love is the story of a woman who remembers the violence she experienced with her boyfriend, she says. Even today, in 2022, we have a woman who dies under the blows of her companion every three days, it’s huge”, protests the young woman.
To participate in this festival, these directors responded to a competition. A dozen candidates were selected, including two men. The event was born thanks to the involvement of three young women from the association Not enough domiciled in La Chaouée. “It’s the question of women that is super important to us. We are feminists. Making short films modernizes this awareness and it has a greater impact on people”, reports Nastassia Smajlovic, organizer of the festival. The screening of the films will be preceded by a conference led by a feminist association. At the end of the evening, the jury will award its prizes to the candidates.
Round table at 5.30 p.m., screening from 7 p.m., at the La Chaouée café, 1 rue du Champé in Metz.
