Many migrants arrive in Menton (Alpes-Maritimes). On site, there are numerous police officers and controls. At the same time, the prefecture is developing land at the entrance to the city to allow temporary reception.
On a train from Italy, many migrants try to cross the border on Tuesday September 19. But as soon as they arrived on the French side, in Menton (Alpes-Maritimes), they were intercepted by the police. Some were taken to the police station, while others preferred to turn around. “A lot of people are arriving. My brother is on the road, he is coming from Lampedusa“, in Italy, testifies a man.

To cope with these numerous arrivals, 120 soldiers from Operation Sentinel will come to support the 200 police and gendarmes already present in the sector. At the same time, the prefecture is developing land at the entrance to Menton to temporarily take care of these migrants, with the help of an association. “It’s good that the municipality makes land available to accommodate them a little, and at least that they have a transitional area“, says a passerby, while others are worried about the situation.
