In Marseille, on the Prado beaches, an application developed by the town hall is being tested. It allows direct contact with the first aid station in the event of harassment.

For several years, the lifeguards of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) have been confronted with a new problem: harassment. “On the beaches of Marseille, whether it’s exhibition, photos of young girls, sexual perversion, he can really have it all”reports Lisa Fentati, head of post on Prado South beach.

Since August 1, a new application available free of charge allows, on South Prado beach, any harassed person, victim or witness, to report it. It is enough to press a button, and to click on one of the three proposals. The objective is to “deter the stalker”explains Lisa Fentati, but also “to know what happened [et] how did that happen”. According to a poll conducted by YouGov, more than one in three women aged 18 to 34 have already been the victim of harassment on the beach. The alert system could be extended from summer 2023 to all supervised beaches in Marseille.
