In Marseille, a motorist deliberately hits two thieves on a scooter, killing one of the occupants

On Saturday, after having his luxury watch stolen, a man chased the thieves and hit them with his car. The scooter driver, an adult, died at the scene of the accident.

Two men, a young adult and a 15-year-old teenager, were arrested on Sunday August 4 in the 14th arrondissement of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) and are being prosecuted for destroying the car involved in a fatal road accident on Saturday evening in Marseille, the Marseille prosecutor’s office said on Monday evening. The driver of the car and “the woman who accompanied him” are always “actively sought” by investigators.

Saturday evening at 11:10 p.m., Place de Lenche in Marseille, prosecutor Nicolas Bessone detailed in a press release, a motorist driving a BMW 2 series “deliberately hit in a very violent manner, after a chase, a Yamaha scooter ridden by two individuals who had just violently stolen” his watch. The scooter driver, “an adult unfavorably known to the police and justice services and residing illegally in the territory”died at the scene of the accident. The passenger on the scooter, “identified as an unaccompanied foreign minor”is still hospitalized with a life-threatening prognosis. The territorial crime division is then seized of the investigation.

The next day, very early (4:23 a.m.), in the 14th arrondissement of Marseille, investigators arrested “a young adult and a minor aged 15”near “of a burning vehicle turning out to be the BMW vehicle involved”adds the public prosecutor. These two young men confess during their police custody that they had “were asked to set fire to the vehicle”. They deny having participated in the fatal road accident. They have not given “no precise indication of their sponsor”reports the Marseille prosecutor’s office, which has requested that the young adult be placed in pretrial detention and that the minor be placed under judicial supervision. They must be brought before an investigating judge. The two men are being prosecuted for “destruction of property by fire” and “destruction of evidence resulting from the commission of a crime.”

The Marseille prosecutor’s office has opened another judicial investigation, this time against unknown persons, for “murder” and “attempted murder”, “failure to assist a person in danger”, “destruction of property by fire” and “destruction of evidence resulting from the commission of a crime”. The driver of the BMW and his passenger, whom he left behind at the time of the road accident, on Place de Lenche, are still being sought by investigators.

At the same time, the prosecutor added, “a separate investigation into the violent and group theft of the watch has been opened”.
