Mariupol (Ukraine) is nothing more than a succession of devastated buildings. In the middle of the city, a building is barely standing. This is the hospital where all the windows were shattered. In front of the building, a crowd has been queuing for hours to get a few liters of water. “We need water for the toilets, to wash, to do the dishes”claims a woman. Inside, the hospital is overwhelmed. There are sick and injured people everywhere in the corridors. Despite the bombardments, the hospital never stopped working.

In a corner, a worker received a shrapnel in the eye while he was right in front of his house. “I need an operation, I need to go to Donetsk. Here they can’t do it, there’s no electricity, half the doctors are missing.”he said. The hospital is now under the control of the Russians and the separatists. On the floor are four bodies, the morgue no longer functioning. A few floors above, the maternity ward and an operating theater can continue to operate thanks to a generator.
