It is a unique device in the world. In the metropolis of Lyon, a new generation scanner is used on patients after several years of pre-clinical experimentation. The goal is to improve the quality of examinations and to help in the early detection of several diseases.

Manufactured by electronics company Phillips and the result of an international collaboration, theThe project was launched with state investment, which made it possible to develop the first tests of the device quite quickly.

This “photonic counting spectral scanner”, officially named spectral IQon CT, allows in particular to produce high definition images of the human body. Until now, medical imaging devices offered black and white renderings. This one not only has the capacity to obtain color images but it also benefits from a resolution five times better than a conventional scanner.

This technological advance can be used both for standard examinations and for those requiring very high precision, such as cardiological or urological examinations. A revolution in medicine according to several specialists. “Having the latest new generation scanner and participating in the technological evolution of this type of device is fantastic” exclaims Pr. Philippe Douek, radiologist and teacher-researcher at Lyon 1.
