Violent attacks to steal luxury watches have multiplied in the streets of Paris, but also in London (United Kingdom). To catch the thieves in the act, the English police serve as bait. Undercover operations which seem to be an effective technique for stemming the phenomenon on the streets of London.
The number of stolen watches has almost doubled in seven years. Attacks occur at night as well as in broad daylight. Nick Triggs had a 1,400 euro watch stolen, a gift from his wife. “A car door opened in front of me, and a man punched me in the left cheek. I heard him shout: give me your watch!“
Why not apply the method in France?
To increase their chance of being approached by thieves, police officers pretend to be drunk when leaving bars and clubs. These traps have made it possible to make 31 arrests in London in recent months. Why not apply the same method in France? French police officers do not have the right to incite thieves to commit a crime, unlike their English colleagues.
