European Disability Employment Week kicked off on Monday 14 November. On this occasion, meeting with Mathilde, a young man with Down syndrome who works in a large fast food chain.

Concentrated and applied, Mathilde Farge does not want to make any mistakes. Despite her disability, the young 26-year-old woman thrives at KFC Limoges (Haute-Vienne). “I am very careful”, she says. She has worked here for 15 months. Accompanied by the Trisomy 21 Regional Resource Center, she discovers the professional world at her own pace. “We generally start with an internship, to integrate into the company, (…) and if everything goes well and the employer also agrees, then we sign a contract for arrangement”says Carine Dubrac, guide at the Centre.

Next step for Mathilde, a permanent contract. The manager sees only advantages. “It’s a good thing both for people who integrate with a disability, but also for the teams. It creates stimulation in the team, an exchange, (…) a good state of mind in the ‘company”, explains Loïc Médard, the manager of KFC. The young woman has made a place for herself in the team, or even a little more. “She’s a bit of a darling. She is eager to learn, so everyone devotes time to her”says Paul Truong, supervisor at KFC.
