The Racing Club de Lens has set up an audio description system for the visually impaired and blind. This is not a first in France.
At the Racing Club de Lens, we have a credo: football is for everyone, including those who see poorly or those who cannot see at all. The club has set up an audio description system for the visually impaired and blind. It’s a very simple principle: when you buy your ticket for the match, you let it be known that you suffer from visual problems and, on the day of the match, you remove a small radio, your headset, and you have the commentary, with commentators who are at the stadium and who make you experience this match like all the other supporters.
“Audio description allows me to come to the stadium and be in the atmosphere”
The commentary also has a particular vocabulary: we talk about zones. It is also ultra descriptive to transcribe as precisely as possible what is happening. The first returns to Lens are very good: there are around ten in each match to enjoy of this completely free system. It was from Euro 2016 that this began to become more widespreadr. It exists at the Stade de Reims, at LOSC (Lille)at the Olympic Lyonnaisor at the Metz Football Club. “Most of the time I listened to the radio, but I didn’t come to the stadium. Audio description allows me to come to the stadium and be in the atmosphere”confides a man who is a beneficiary of the device.
