In Le Mans (Pays de la Loire), the tour of the garbage collectors is now done to the rhythm of the hooves of a Percheron mare.

The new garbage collector of Le Mans (Pays de la Loire) makes a funny noise on the cobblestones. In 10 years, Doupette of Lucé, nicknamed Nono, weighs 800 kilos. For her, the weekly recycling collection is a walk in the park. “She’s reacting pretty well. We had to get used to it, anyway ”, explains Christine Room, longshoreman and owner of Nono.

In the narrow streets of the city Plantagenet, the mare squeezes better than any dump truck and, thanks to her, locals can sort without moving. “It’s great and it safeguards the race”, comments a resident, delighted. Usually, this draft horse is used for work in the forest, but its owner is convinced: Nono has its place in town. “More and more, everywhere in France, draft horses are coming to town because they are able to provide a lot of services”, specifies Christine Room.
