A 10-year-old girl mistakenly received an adult dose of vaccine on Wednesday, December 22, reports France Bleu Normandie. She was injected with a half-dose of the Moderna vaccine, intended for adults, at the Ponts vaccination center, near Avranches, in La Manche.
The nurse noticed the error a few seconds after the injection and immediately reported it. Increased surveillance was then recommended by the centre’s doctor. The girl did not react immediately. His parents filed a complaint, according to France Bleu Normandie.
“The girl was asked to sit in the wrong place because there was no room in the right place. And it just happened.”, explains Joanny Allombert, director of the Avranches-Granville hospital, in charge of the town’s vaccination center. “What matters to me today is especially knowing that to my knowledge, she is doing well so far.”
The management of the hospital claims to have taken new measures, in particular the establishment of barriers to better delimit the vaccination routes in this center of Ponts, in particular the route dedicated to children.
