On the occasion of European Disability Employment Week, the France Télévisons teams visited a restaurant in La Ciotat, which employs people with Down’s syndrome.

In La Ciotat (Bouches-du-Rhône), Matthieu and Sami prepare the room before the arrival of the first customers. In the kitchen, we are also active. Simple words, smiles and patience, this is the restaurant chef’s recipe THElaughing bird, Sébastien Godec, who has learned over the months to work alongside employees with Down’s Syndrome. “You have to live with them, you have to work with them to understand. […] You arrive in the morning, you are happy “, confides the latter.

The first customers arrive. That day, the restaurant expects about fifty covers, an ordinary day for the two servers. “I am very proud of who I am. I can show what I can do, and maybe I have a little project in the future “, says Sami. This project is an apartment. Down’s syndrome requires some working hours, but the company can count on its employees, who are very motivated and happy to work.
