For the sake of saving energy, kyiv (Ukraine) lives to the rhythm of power cuts. Residents sometimes have to resort to spending the evening with candles and torches as the only sources of light.
The streets of kyiv (Ukraine) are plunged into darkness, Monday, October 24. There is almost no street lighting, to save energy as winter approaches. The measure is rather well received by the inhabitants. In a restaurant in the city, everyone puts up with it. We dine there by candlelight, and the waiters work as best they can. “The most complicated thing is to take, with paper and pen, the orders for the kitchen, the bar, or other things“, explains Dmytro Lytvynenko, bartender.
During the day, kyiv is rather lively. In these times of war, some businesses are profitable, like this bazaar, where we sell everything, or almost. The most requested objects are the flashlights and the small gas burners, essential to live more or less normally. “We have to save electricity by all means in our apartment. I, for example, have rechargeable lamps, which can be switched on, and the children can thus do their homework“, testifies Fedir, inhabitant of the capital.
