IN IMAGES, IN PICTURES. Marseille, Cassis and southern Bouches-du-Rhône flooded after storms

Violent thunderstorms hit the south of Bouches-du-Rhône on the evening of Wednesday August 17. The department was one of the four departments still concerned by the orange thunderstorm vigilance of Météo France, with Gard, Vaucluse and Var, Wednesday evening.

In Marseille, 35mm of rain fell in less than 45 minutes, reports Météo France. The edges of the old port of Marseille have become a paddling pool where passers-by have had their feet in the water.

Two kilometers away, cars and scooters moved slowly on the avenue du Prado, while torrential rains covered the road with a pool of water several centimeters high.

The city of Cassis, 25 kilometers from Marseille, saw the streets of its city center being crossed by a torrent of water, as reported Provence in a video posted on Twitter as well as Météo express.

Inland, in the small town of Auriol, the inhabitants saw hail falling on their balconies.

From Thursday August 18, 6 a.m., however, the south-east of France will no longer be affected by the orange vigilance of Météo France. Only the Pyrénées-Atlantiques will go into storm alert.
