Is your favorite series in danger of disappearing from the screens? More than 11,000 striking American screenwriters marched through the streets of New York on Tuesday, May 2. They demonstrate to demand a pay rise. With the rise of platforms and shorter series, they work an average of 24 weeks a year, compared to 40 a few years ago. Half of them earn 6,700 euros per week, which is little compared to the billions of dollars earned by the platforms.

Debts are piling up in Hollywood

In 2007, the last writers’ strike cost Hollywood more than $2 billion, and earned a 3.5% salary increase. Dozens of companies are seeing their activity shut down. Hollywood is not about to accept, advancing the debts of the studios (45 billion euros for Disney for example). Even if the strike continues, most series episodes were filmed in April. The impact on French screens should therefore be limited.
