Approaching 14% in the polls, Raphaël Glucksmann, head of the PS and Place Publique list, will deliver his “Strasbourg speech” on Wednesday April 24, during a meeting in the city of the European Parliament. A speech that Raphaël Glucksmann’s entourage presents as “founder”.

To spice up the campaign, this speech will come on the eve of another major speech on Europe, that of Emmanuel Macron. The Head of State will present his vision for the European Union for the next five years at the Sorbonne on Thursday. Raphaël Glucksmann’s speech had been planned for a long time but the timing wink does not lack salt, while Macronists and socialists are competing for the center-left electorate.

A very pro-European vision

In this “Strasbourg speech”, Raphaël Glucksmann will present his “Europe 2030 agenda”, in order to give the very pro-European vision of the socialists for the years to come. An agenda for Europe which will be structured around three pillars: ecology, defense and solidarity. The objective, according to the campaign team, is to present to the French “a serious, concrete project that allows us to plan beyond June 9”. In short, it is a question of showing that it is not only Emmanuel Macron who has a vision for Europe, and of showing in passing that it is not only ecologists who talk about ecology . A Green MP is also worried about the idea that Raphaël Glucksmann could become the “helpful vote” on the left, like Jean-Luc Mélenchon in the last presidential election.

The goal of the socialists for this European election, “it’s to continue to climb as much as possible”, says someone close to Raphaël Glucksmann. At the PS, some even dream of stealing second place from Macronist Valérie Hayer, despite a scenario of crossing the curves which still seems very hypothetical. Beware of overconfidence, warns a socialist leader: “Sometimes there are tempting polls and the final score is not there”, he recalls, citing François-Xavier Bellamy as an anti-model. In 2019, the LR candidate benefited from encouraging polls… before collapsing to 8.48% at the polls.
