Elected Prime Minister on January 9, Gabriel Attal has already made a series of trips linked to crisis situations. So after trying to appease the angry farmers, the 34-year-old politician was this Tuesday, January 30, 2024, expected at the National Assembly to deliver his general policy declaration.
Against expectations, the one who had a college romance with the singer Joyce Jonathan, was delighted to have obtained such a nice job despite his sexual orientation. “Being French in 2024 means, in a country which, only ten years ago, was still torn over marriage for all, being able to be Prime Minister while openly accepting one’s homosexuality” he said. “From all this, I see proof that our country is moving, proof that mentalities are evolving” he added.
This is the first time that Gabriel Attal has made such an explicit reference to his homosexuality since his appointment as Prime Minister, he who was “outed” in 2018 by his former classmate, Juan Branco. The famous lawyer had in fact revealed the sexual orientation of the politician in his book “Twilight”. Guest on the set of the show Seven to Eight on TF1, Gabriel Attal expressed his regrets at this forced revelation and therefore not having been able to announce his homosexuality “when he wanted and in the way he wanted”.
At the time of his appointment as Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal received praise from LGBT associations who highlighted a “strong gesture”. “The appointment of Gabriel Attal goes in the right direction, it illustrates the fact that in 2024 in France it is possible to be homosexual Prime Minister” declared Joël Deumier, co-president of Sos Homophobia, for example.
