in her farewell speech, she spoke of a “curse”, but what was she talking about?

Publicly disavowed on Gérard Depardieu’s Legion of Honor file, by the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, last December, Rima Abdul Malak finally left the government on January 12, 2024. Rachida Dati replaces her , at rue de Valois. And during the transfer of power this Friday, the outgoing Minister of Culture did not hide her disappointment.

Curse to the Ministry of Culture

Faced with journalists and the mayor of the 7th arrondissement, she explained: “I have to make a confession to you. I hoped to be able to thwart the curse that has befallen the Ministry of Culture for more than ten years. Which means that ministers stay less than two years in their post. But this curse is definitely tenacious“. We think of course of Roselyne Bachelot, Franck Riester, Françoise Nyssen…

And added: “I have several regrets in leaving you”, listing its program for diversity, its plan for arts professions, its law on the restitution of usurped cultural property, as well as its fight for copyright and freedom of the press. Rima Abdul Malak would also have wanted “continue work on projects that are close to her heart” she says, like the house of press cartoons, the Institute of France and Algeria, the house of African worlds, she lists.

She was ready for the Caesars

She also quips that she already had “writes a text in Alexandrian to respond to a possible questioning at the next Molières or Césars ceremony”which will take place next April and February… Too bad!

While Rachida Dati, fervent opponent of the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, recently alerted (with Stéphane Bern) about the fate of the Marie Curie springs pavilion, Rima Abdul Malak also encouraged her “dear Rachida”, to continue his fight for heritage. She, who has already launched into the race for City Hall, for 2026, has two years, exactly, to convince. Not enough to break the curse…
