Friday January 26, all eyes are on the Prime Minister. Farmers say what they do next will depend on what he says. How will he be received in Haute-Garonne?

On the eighth day of their mobilization on the A64 in Carbonne (Haute-Garonne), farmers are suspended from the Prime Minister’s announcements. Jérôme Bayle, one of the leaders of the movement, must speak with Gabriel Attal. “If he came to meet me, it was to talk. (…) The goal, is to shake hands at the end and reach an agreement“, he confides.

Long-awaited negotiations

All the farmers present still have the hope of finding an agreement. There are many areas of contention, such as excessively heavy loads. “We have costs of vet, all costs doubling. Today, it is no longer possible to make a living from agriculture“, deplores Thorayya Mouton, sheep breeder. “I’m not here to do administration, that’s what 30% of us do today“, says Francis Poleitano, grain farmer. A poultry breeders hopes for a reduction in environmental standards. In a few hours, everyone will be clear on the government’s intentions.
