Nearly a hundred artists, singers and dancers bring to life on the Grenoble stage of the Summum the adventures of the young American writer Clifford Bradshaw who falls in love with Sally Bowles, leader of the legendary Kit Kat Club, a Berlin cabaret. We are in 1929, against a backdrop of the rise of Nazism, but in this festive place all extravagances are allowed. We swing, we dance carefree. “It’s both catchy and gritty. An underground atmosphere that has nothing to do with flashy cabarets. It’s really the atmosphere there is at the bottom of Berlin nightclubs”, says Lucie Marien, pianist in the troupe. In this lively show directed by Philippe Arlaud, the musicians of the University Symphony Orchestra of Grenoble and the choristers mix two musical worlds, classical and jazz.

La Fabrique Opéra, created in 2006 by conductor Patrick Souillot, brings together amateur and professional artists. The main roles are played by recognized artists. For Cabaret, it is the soloist Eva Gentili who interprets Sally Bowles. “It’s great to see these shared energies. There is a lot of interaction between professionals, amateurs and students”, welcomes the singer and actress. After Cabaret, the troupe will play the most famous of love stories, Romeo and Juliet, from June 3 to 5, 2022.
