From European elections to other French political deadlines. The leader of Place publique, Raphaël Glucksmann, called on Sunday, October 6, the French to join his party to participate “to a great and beautiful project for France”and win against the far right in 2027, in his back-to-school speech in La Réole (Gironde).

In front of 2,000 people, the 44-year-old essayist, long focused on European battles, affirmed that he intended to lead “the political adventure which must lead us to power”after arriving at the head of the left in the European elections with 14%, leading the Socialist Party list on a pro-European and anti-LFI line. Place publique went from 1,500 members to nearly 11,000 in a few weeks, but “we must be five to ten times more numerous”asked the MEP.

Wanting “do for France what we did for Europe”he notably proposed as a first project “the change in the voting method and the transition to proportional representation in our country”.

“If we want to take radical measures, then we will take them effectively, (…) this is not a contest of ‘more left than me, you die'”he continued in a dig at Jean-Luc Mélenchon, whom he has often criticized in substance and form. His stated will is “to take strong measures because the situation requires it and we will have worked on them sufficiently”he insisted.

He also promised not to “put nothing under the rug”and to address the themes “which sometimes seem to make the left uncomfortable”such as security, authority, identity, integration and immigration. “But that doesn’t mean that we will make right-wing speeches on these subjects. It means that we will have our answers to these questions.”
