Immediate sanction. A squadron leader commanding the Langon (Gironde) gendarmerie company was relieved of his operational command and transferred “on a post” without “contact with the public” for a refusal of vaccination against Covid-19, the gendarmerie told AFP on Friday, December 3.
At the head of a staff of 150 gendarmes, this 32-year-old senior officer was first sanctioned with ten days’ arrest and then transferred to the General Directorate of the Gendarmerie in Paris, “on a post where he is no longer in contact with the public” said the gendarmerie in Gironde, confirming information from the newspaper South West. This sanction linked to a refusal of vaccination is “a rare event” in the gendarmerie because it is “little faced with the problem”, added the same source.
Since September 15, the gendarmes assigned in the field or in contact with the public must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19, according to a note from the General Directorate of the National Gendarmerie (DGGN) consulted by AFP. According to Sud Ouest, a new squadron leader of the Langon company has been appointed and will take up her duties at the beginning of January.
