Since the Hamas attack and the Israeli response, the inhabitants of the Palestinian enclave have been living under bombs and constantly having to move. For a year, Rami Abu Jamus filmed his daily life for France 2.

Rami Abu Jamus is an independent Palestinian journalist from Gaza. For a year, he was the eyes of the France 2 editorial staff on this Palestinian enclave, totally cut off from the world. But he is also a father and a husband, whose destiny changed on October 7. It is his story that “8 p.m.” decided to tell, this Monday, October 7, 2024, thanks to his images.

“Hundreds of rockets fired from the Gaza Strip” : it is with this message that Rami Abu Jamus warns the editorial staff on October 7, 2023, at the time when Hamas launches its murderous attack against Israel. “3 hours since the start of the Hamas attack. Personally, I am packing my suitcase”continues the journalist. Rami Abu Jamus understood that this war would not be like any other.

Her priority was to protect her son, who was two years old at the time. He makes the bombings look like fireworks. His family’s daily life is disrupted by the war. At first, he refused to leave his apartment despite the intentions of the Israeli army.

In appalling conditions, Rami continues to document his daily life marked by bombings, forced displacements and omnipresent fear. After initially refusing to leave their apartment, his family finally fled to Al-Shifa hospital, overrun by the fighting, before taking refuge in southern Gaza. Their exodus ends in Rafah, where they find refuge in an apartment lent to them by a friend. But the war is still there. Every day, Rami learns of the death of someone close to him, while his living conditions deteriorate.
