As the war in Ukraine enters its 32nd month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on world envoys gathered at the United Nations General Assembly to pressure Russia and force Vladimir Putin’s regime to withdraw its troops. “Russia can only be forced into peace, and that is exactly what must be done: force Russia into peace.”the head of state said during a session of the UN Security Council devoted to Ukraine.
The Ukrainian president, who has been in the United States since Sunday evening, must also present to his American counterpart Joe Biden and to Congress in Washington the details of his “victory plan” aimed at ending the Russian invasion of his country. He also pointed the finger at Iran and North Korea, accused of aiding the Russian war machine in Ukraine.
This analysis was shared by the head of American diplomacy, Antony Blinken, who believes that “Tehran and Pyongyang’s support helps Putin inflict carnage, suffering and ruin on innocent Ukrainian men, women and children”His Chinese counterpart Wang Yi assured that Beijing was “not a party” to the conflict. “China is not the originator of the Ukrainian crisis and is not involved in it. China has always stood on the side of peace”he said, rejecting US accusations that China provides support to Moscow.
In his final speech to the UN, US President Joe Biden said his Russian counterpart had failed in its invasion of Ukraine, calling on the United Nations to maintain its support for kyiv until it is victorious. “The good news is that Putin’s war has not achieved its main objective. He intended to destroy Ukraine, but Ukraine is still free. He intended to weaken NATO, but NATO is bigger, stronger and more united than ever.”he said.
