“France, thank you.” Faced with the National Assembly which rises to give him an ovation, the only words that Volodymyr Zelensky pronounces in French are addressed to the country. For the second time since the start of the war, the Ukrainian president spoke to French deputies. The day after Emmanuel Macron’s announcement of the delivery of Mirage 2000, the head of state wants to believe that it will make a difference.

This new aid is divisive. The national secretary of the PCF Fabien Roussel denounces “a military escalation”. “We must help Ukraine, including with arms deliveries”, declares Cyrielle Chatelain, EELV deputy for Isère. Delivery of Mirage 2000, training of pilots in France, possibility of sending instructors to western Ukraine… The Kremlin sees in these announcements a new step taken. The first planes could be delivered by the end of the year and add to the arsenal already supplied by France to Ukraine.
