Even though we have been living with AIDS for 40 years, many preconceived ideas persist. “30% of young people think that you can contract HIV by kissing. (…) We need to say things again, re-explain the modes of transmission”, indicates Jennifer Pasquier, scientific director at Sidaction, in 12/13 info Friday December 1, on the occasion of World AIDS Day. Clips were broadcast, like the Villa of Truths, which is aimed at young people.

Still no vaccine, but effective treatment

Forty years later, there is still no vaccine against HIV, but it is possible to live with the virus through treatment. “We live with HIV normally since now we have virus levels that are undetectable in the blood, which means that we are no longer even contaminating”, explains Jennifer Pasquier. Sidaction is still calling for donations, because research continues and the disease is present. “In France, around 5,000 people discover their HIV status each year”concludes the scientific director at Sidaction.
