In Finistère, a whale runs aground on an island of Glénan

Fishermen made a funny discovery this Friday, May 6 in the morning. A whale five meters long was found stranded on one of the beaches of the Glénan archipelago (Finistère). Nicolas Desguine, a resident of Lesconil, first saw jets of water without really understanding what it was. “As we approached, we saw that there was a tail beating, it was stuck between the rocks”he describes.

The sailors did not hesitate for a second, they headed for the sailing school on the island of Penfret. “Can’t move it“, he explains. According to the firefighters, the animal weighs between 3 and 5 tons.

A rescue team – accompanied by an animal specialist – was still on site at the end of the afternoon. They hope to succeed in putting the whale back in the water at the beginning of the evening, at the time of high tide. In the meantime, tarpaulins have been installed to protect it from the sun and it is regularly watered.
