In Fèves (Moselle), Kéolis is training the bus drivers of tomorrow

They kinda have the same profile. Zinedine, 22, was a mediator in the Met bus, the public transport network of the Eurometropolis of Metz. Jaleel, from Vitry-sur-Orne, took care of the network’s schedules for two months Citeline, in Thionville and the Fensch valley.

It is because they had this first experience within a network operated by Kéolis that the company offered them to integrate the first promotion of the “mobility campus” installed in Fèves, near the cross of Hauconcourt.

Provoke the vocation rather than waiting for resumes to come. Because bus driver is a profession that is difficult to recruit. The Met is looking for fifteen. Cityline as well. And it’s not just the fault of the Covid. “The Covid is disruptive but we have a high turnover. The transport offer is changing, we also have 360 drivers so, inevitably, retirements, departures from the region… Every year, Covid or not, depending on the age pyramid, we recruit 10 to 15 people“explains Franck Duval, the boss of the Met.

399 hours and a D license

Jaleel, who trained as an electrician, did not necessarily imagine himself to be a driver. “I was a little reluctant, schedules, sometimes it’s not that. But I’m young, so that doesn’t bother me.“Hard training 399 hours and is paid by the company. In five weeks, the apprentices will take their license D, necessary to drive this type of vehicle. “The mirrors are wider, the vehicle is wider, there is an overhang and the wheels are under the driver“adds Zinedine.

If all goes well, the 13 apprentices will sign a CDI at the end of the training, in three months. 7 at the Met, 6 at Citeline. Zinedine will be in Metz. Jaleel in Thionville, like his father and his uncle.
