Épernay, in Marne, had the privilege of hosting the first performance. Spectators rediscovered the titles that made the success of 10 Commandments in a show more modern than the original.

“It was truly a wonderful and very moving moment”enthuses a spectator at the exit of the 10 Commandments – The Desire to Love. “I’m moved, it’s so beautiful”, adds another. Conquered, the audience at the Millesium in Épernay offered a standing ovation to the revised and corrected version of the musical.

For two and a half hours, the new troupe, around forty artists, brought the story of Moses to life in music and song. A new adventure carried by Pascal Obispo, the composer of Ten Commandmentsand producer Albert Cohen.

The idea of resuming the show emerged after the death, in 2022, of Daniel Lévi, the unforgettable interpreter of Moïse in the first version of the musical. “When we met Albert Cohen for the tribute to Daniel Lévi, with just one look, we wanted to leave again. We wanted to redo this entire show, to completely reconsider the staging and to start again on new bases, with new singers”, says Pascal Obispo. Songs were deleted and replaced with three others, titles were remixed. A new orchestration with many young performers spotted in The Voice, the TF1 telehook show. This is particularly the case of Benjamin Bocconi who plays Moses.

The scenography has also been given a facelift with the use of 3D which immerses the viewer in ancient Egypt. “We tried to work on this show through images, paintings. It’s a bit like trompe-l’oeil that comes to life,” explains Giuliano Peparini, director and choreographer of the new musical. This revival almost did not see the light of day, because it was challenged in court by Élie Chouraki, the director of the first show. The latter was dismissed by the Paris judicial court last January.

Twenty-four years ago, The ten Commandments brought together nearly 1.8 million spectators around the world. A huge success that the new version will try to match with a tour lasting almost a year in France, Switzerland and Belgium.
