Worst away team in Ligue 1 before kick-off, Olympique de Marseille has finally rediscovered the taste of success far from its bases, in the championship, Saturday March 2. On the lawn of Clermont, the red lantern, the Marseillais unfolded and offered a new offensive festival. Already winners of Montpellier 4 goals to 1 on Sunday, the Olympians won even more widely in Auvergne.

In the last three matches – since the arrival of Jean-Louis Gasset – OM have scored 12 times, more than in the ten previous matches. At the Gabriel-Montpied stadium, it was Iliman Ndiaye, in full rebirth, who opened the scoring, opportunistic in the area (23rd). Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (59th), Jonathan Clauss (67th), Luis Henrique (80th) and Faris Moumbagna (90+2nd) then worsened the score in the second half.

Aubameyang, the famous great striker

A necessity, since the Marseillais had been joined by the Auvergnats at the start of the second act, on a corner taken in two stages by Bilal Boutobba, former great hope of the training center… of OM. But Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang quickly responded to him, therefore, to restore the advantage to OM.

Author of his 19th goal this season in all competitions, the Gabonese is the first attacker to reach this mark for his first season at OM since Bafétimbi Gomis in 2016-2017. A good omen for the Phocéens, before their round of 16 first leg of the Europa League on Thursday, against Villarreal.
