Within two years, a wind farm should be inaugurated off Courseulles-sur-mer and Bernières-sur-mer (Calvados). This project, launched in 2010, involves the construction of 64 wind turbines 10 km from the coast. If the project could be disputed, in particular for aesthetic reasons, more and more inhabitants of Courseulles-sur-mer are favorable to it today. This is the case of Danielle, a young retiree who recently bought a house in the town. Seeing a wind farm on the sea did not really please her, but given the news, she ended up changing her mind: “We may need electricity and if we do not want to experience a shortage then it may be beneficial for us.”
The energy crisis favorable to the project
Global warming and the increase in energy prices are helping to upset the perception that the inhabitants of the coast have of this project. In any case, this is what Anne-Marie Philippeaux, the mayor of Courseulles-sur-mer, observes: “France’s energy independence is important, the people of Coursellais have become aware of this and this wind project comes out when we need it. As an elected representative, we must pay attention to this and we must accept this kind of project. .” This wind farm also has a financial advantage for the municipality, which will be compensated.
