To replace their 25-year-old shuttle, sea rescuers in a town in Calvados are relying on offshore wind farms, thanks to which they will receive a tax.
In Courseulles-sur-Mer (Calvados), SNSM volunteers have been carrying out their rescue missions with an old launch for more than 25 years. They are looking to replace their boat with an ultramodern boat, estimated at more than 1.5 million euros. “We do not dream of it, because for the time we have been waiting for, we have made up our minds. But yes, we are starting to be impatient”, comments Éric Busnel, president of the SNSM of Courseulles-sur-Mer.
5% tax on offshore wind farms
Until now, to maintain their over-equipped boat and renew their fleet, volunteers had to manage with the means at hand. “Mainly thanks to donations”, says Jean-Marie Trihan, lifeguard. From now on, the association will receive 5% of the tax on offshore wind farms, a windfall estimated at more than 5 million euros. The money will make it possible to buy a new star in Courseulles-sur-Mer from 2024.
