In Charente-Maritime, entire communities are cut off by the waves. In the commune of Courcoury, leaving the village is now done in an agricultural skip pulled by a tractor.

The waters of the Charente and the Saône surround the village of Courcoury (Charente-Maritime), which it is impossible to leave by car. An agricultural dumpster, pulled by a tractor, now serves as public transport. In fact, its wheels can pass through 40 centimeters of water. Against each other, as at rush hour, passengers do not change their habits.

Ten round trips per day

“It’s a relief to know that the town is doing everything possible so that we can go to work, and not be cut off from the world”, confides a man. On the way down, everyone finds their car, parked outside the flooded area. For three days since the roads have been closed, the small town of 712 inhabitants has set up ten round trips with this shuttle. “We don’t want to suffer, and we organize”summarizes Eric Bigot, mayor (SE) of Courcoury.
