For or against the opening of a reception center for asylum seekers? The question arises more and more often in rural municipalities, such as in Beyssenac in Corrèze where the 300 inhabitants are very divided on the subject.

Uzerche is a small town nicknamed “The pearl of Corrèze”. With its 2700 inhabitants, it has become for several years the home port of about thirty asylum seekers. Here, learning French is a priority. Salim was a herder in Afghanistan. Threatened by the Taliban, he left his country in 2017 leaving his family behind. “Here, I have a roof, friends, my French lessons, it’s very good for me”he says. Marc has been volunteering with refugees for four years and supports them in their daily lives.

The reception of migrants creates discord in Beyssenac

Despite the reluctance of a handful of residents, the reception was smooth. Seven years later, the mayor is proud to have revitalized his town. Local businesses also benefit from the arrival of immigrants. Dominique has a forestry work business. Very quickly, he trained immigrants. But welcoming migrants is not always obvious. 30 minutes from Uzerche, Beyssenac, 300 inhabitants, and soon a reception center for asylum seekers. But the rejection of progress is on full display. Despite the discord, the prefect will not abandon the project.
