The 13 million inhabitants of the city of Xi’an, in central China, have been confined to their homes since December 23. In question, a significant increase in the number of cases of Covid-19 within it, which earned it the nickname of “new Wuhan”.
On Sunday, December 26, the authorities announced new measures, including total disinfection of the city. Thousands of agents in full protective gear are deployed everywhere on the public highway, like battalions, armed with dispensers of disinfectant products. They progress in the streets and in the residences to clean every nook and cranny.
Since December 26, confinement has been more severe: only one exit per household is possible to go shopping, but every three days instead of two previously. Lele, a 38-year-old resident, is completely confined to his home because a positive case has been reported at his residence.
“The inhabitants are not even allowed to go down to walk in the garden of the residence, he says. The only way out is to get tested. Residents go to the queue, each in turn at a specific time, building by building. “
“For supplies, there is a temporary grocery store, at the bottom of the building, which is held every day between 2 and 4 p.m. After our visit, the grocery store is disinfected.”

The municipality does not hide its concern, explaining that a large number of new infections should still appear in the coming days. A very serious breach in China’s “zero Covid” policy.
